MEETING PLACE
All Barker-Ewing trips meet at The Hillside Building, 945 West Broadway. The large American Flag at location #2 on the MAP is a great landmark. Use the Scott Lane/Budge Drive stoplight intersection for access to our parking area. Please advise us in advance if you are traveling by motor home or pulling a trailer. We will direct you to an alternative parking area. - TOP -
WHAT TO BRING
For the scenic trips, casual clothing such as lightweight shorts or pants and comfortable, soft-soled shoes are most suitable. For the early morning and late afternoon trips, you may want to bring an extra layer for warmth in case of cooler weather. You will not get wet on these trips, so cameras are a great idea and are generally not at risk.
For the whitewater trips, wear clothing that you don't mind getting wet from spray and splashing waves. Synthetic fabrics such as nylon shorts work the best but are not necessary. Shoes that are secure on your feet are required and will get wet. Please no flip-flops. We have water booties for rent if you prefer. You may bring a towel or dry clothing to leave on the bus for the return ride to Jackson. Sunglasses, prescription eyewear, hats, cameras and binoculars are subject to water damage and may be taken only at your own risk. - TOP -
WE PROVIDE
For all trips, we provide roundtrip transportation from our meeting place in Jackson. Water is available on the bus. Protective raingear is available when you arrive at the river. Life preservers are required at all times while on the water. For the cold water temperatures of early summer, wetsuits, booties and fleece are available on a rental basis. They are a nice addition and may add significantly to your comfort on rainy, cloudy or windy days throughout the summer as well. You can request rentals at the time of your trip. - TOP -
CHILDREN
For our whitewater trips, the minimum age for children is six years old or approximately 45 pounds. However, brief periods of high water during the early season may increase the minimum age to upwards of eight to ten years old and require a more careful screening of all young participants. Safety is always our first priority. Please understand that our decision is in your child's best interest. For our scenic trips, the minimum age for children is four years old or approximately 40 pounds. - TOP -
IN THE EVENT OF QUESTIONABLE WEATHER
Passing showers will generally not preclude your enjoyment of a whitewater river trip. Rarely, however, strong winds combined with unseasonably cold temperatures may require us to cancel or reschedule a trip. Though you may call us for discussion of weather prospects approximately an hour before trip departure time, a final decision will not be made until trip departure time. In mountain environments, weather predictions remote in time or distance from the planned event are usually unreliable. Please meet us at the appointed time and place, and trust that we will not intentionally inflict an unpleasant experience upon you. - TOP -
